Key Insights for Urban Data Center Construction: Computer Room & Cabinet Procurement (Xiong’an Project Experience)

Hi, I’m Daniel, project manager of the Xiong’an Data Center Construction Project. Over 18 months, I led a team to build a green intelligent data center in Xiong’an, and today I’ll share key insights on urban data center construction—focusing on two core links: computer room construction and cabinet procurement, both closely tied to sheet metal processing.
For urban data centers, computer room construction and cabinet procurement directly determine operational stability and efficiency. In Xiong’an, where green and intelligent standards are strict, we optimized every detail of these two links, with sheet metal processing playing a vital role in ensuring quality and adaptability.

Computer room construction is the foundation, and space utilization and safety are top priorities in urban areas. We first optimized the room layout to fit the limited urban land, using customized sheet metal components for wall supports, cable management frames and floor brackets. These precision-processed sheet metal parts ensured the room’s structural stability and met fire and corrosion requirements, critical for long-term operation.

Modularity was key in our Xiong’an computer room construction. We adopted prefabricated sheet metal modules for the room’s core areas, which reduced on-site construction time by 20% and allowed flexible adjustments for future expansion. This modular design also laid the foundation for efficient cabinet installation later.

Cabinet procurement is equally crucial—cabinets are the core carriers of servers and other equipment. In our procurement, we focused on three key points: load-bearing capacity, heat dissipation, and compatibility, all of which are closely related to sheet metal quality. We chose cabinets made of high-quality cold-rolled sheet metal, which offers strong load-bearing and excellent heat conductivity.

Customization was another priority in cabinet procurement. Urban data centers have irregular spaces, so we worked with sheet metal manufacturers to customize cabinet sizes and internal structures. Precision sheet metal cutting and bending ensured the cabinets fit perfectly into our pre-designed room layout, maximizing space use and simplifying equipment installation and cable management.

From Xiong’an’s practice, computer room construction and cabinet procurement are interdependent—excellent room design guides cabinet procurement, while high-quality cabinets enhance room efficiency. Sheet metal processing is the common thread, ensuring both links meet urban data center standards of safety, efficiency and scalability.
